The inaugural Challenger North took place in 2022 but significant storm damage meant a number of adaptations to the route were required for the race to go ahead.

2023 saw the race take place along the correct route on the Pennine Way with G Brian Hutchinson (IRE) and Tim Bradley (GBR) jointly setting the overall record and Irene Kinnegim (NLD) the women’s record.

The overall course record set by the defending 2024 champion Joe O’Leary (IRL) is 44:37:20.

The current women’s record held by the defending champion Nikki Arthur (IMN) is 52:17:19.
