Women Dominate Montane Summer Spine Sprint Race with 4 out of Top 5 Finisher Positions

Rupert Allison has arrived in Hebden Bridge as the winner of the Montane Summer Spine Sprint 2023 having taken a significant chunk out of the course record. He finishes in a time of 6 hours 59 minutes and 40 seconds, 30 minutes quicker than the previous record. But it was the female field that has dominated this race.

Hannah Rickman, who placed 2nd in the full Winter Spine this January, also broke the course record to finish 1st placed woman and 2nd place overall. She beat the previous record by 52 minutes.

She described the conditions today as beautiful and seemed to thoroughly enjoy the chance, in the summery conditions, to really drink in the scenery on the Pennine Way. Hannah will be resting and recuperating tonight, and then joining our volunteer team at our checkpoint in Middleton checkpoint where she’ll help support the runners in the Summer Spine Race and Summer Challenger North.

In 3rd place overall was Debbie Stevens, 4th place went to Joanne Ellis and finishing off the top 5 was Ally Whitlock. Debbie and Joanne also came in ahead of the previous course record.

Simon Gardner and Richard Arthur took 2nd and 3rd male leaving the overall leaderboard as:

1.        Rupert Allison (CR)
2.        Hannah Rickman (CR)
3.        Debbie Stevens
4.        Joanne Ellis
5.        Ally Whitlock
6.        Simon Gardner
7.        Richard Arthur
